Inventions that altered the Dynamics of Internet

In the last decade most of us were not even familiar with the term ‘internet’. However, today all of us including children not only know what internet is but also use it on a regular basis.

New devices are being made frequently that can link all of us together through internet like ‘Google glass’. But have we ever wondered how this scenario shifted so rapidly?

Yahoo:

Yahoo was one of the first search engines by David Filo and Jerry Yang that changed our history. Though, there were many more search engines that were even made before Yahoo but major credit goes to Yahoo because it survived and is still surviving.

Yahoo remained on top till 2004 after that Google took its place.

Google:

Google was introduced in 1998 by Sergey Brin and Larry page. They initially developed it for indexing research papers. However, Google is mentioned not because of its role as a search engine but because it brought out much more than just being a search engine. Today, Google is one of the biggest advertising platforms with the name Google adsense and is also providing an Open source operating system called Android for mobile devices.

YouTube:

YouTube is one of the game changer websites that is powerful enough to topple governments. Founded in 2005 YouTube brought to us a mixture of videos and audios which were uploaded and downloaded by users. YouTube has become the top video sharing website. It earns its revenue by Google advertisements on videos.

Facebook:

Facebook is famous as a social networking website. It came in the limelight after Egypt uprising that was wholly covered on facebook. Facebook has not only changed the dynamics of internet. But it with other social media websites is emerging as the fourth medium along with print, electronic and advertising and is known as the medium of the people.

Facebook has its own system of earning. It has its own advertising method and as 2 billion users are on facebook it earns by displaying advertisements on profiles, community pages, groups and in facebook applications.

Twitter:

Twitter is a website that allows a tweet – short for message – in just 140 words. The idea came to the inventors of Twitter by birds chirping. They used that idea to generate tweets for users. The role of twitter in changing the dynamics of internet is that it has linked people with every other website on internet. Mostly news websites, blogs and those websites that generate content on a regular basis use twitter to share the content with their public.

As you can see these are some of the inventions which have modified internet from an ARMY command system to educational thesis locator to what we know of it today.
